UN welcomes AYR into Global Compact
Wednesday 20th September 2006
Group is the only UK company within the Aerospace and Aviation sector to be inducted into the United Nations Global Compact - an organisation which represents the world's largest corporate citizenship initiative, with 3,300 business participants stretched across 90 countries. As a member, AYR has publicly expressed its commitment to uphold the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, which centre on human rights, fair labour and transparency of business.
As providers of aviation packages to Non-Governmental Organisations, AYR already takes an active role in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations around the world. However, partnership within the Global Compact will further the company's endeavours to implement practical solutions for promoting corporate citizenship. This will include taking responsibility for the protection of human rights within all business operations; and managing cross-border supply chains to ensure maximum benefits to each party involved.
Through membership of the Global Compact, AYR has joined the ranks of such worldwide brand giants as Unilever, Diageo, Hewlett Packard and HSBC in working towards greater corporate responsibility, by giving a recognisable face and clearer set of values to the expanding global marketplace.
Annabel Dubois, International Business Development Manager for AYR Aviation, comments that it is a growing trend demanding recognition: "The number and status of the organisation's members illustrates the importance of ethical business practice to the modern consumer. Furthermore, in the case of AYR, our involvement in the Global Compact is a reflection of the very human approach that the company takes towards fulfilling each client's individual aviation requirements and showing flexibility and initiative when the situation on the ground demands sudden change. We are very pleased to be joining the UN in this initiative".
